A flat Tesla tire on a Chicago side street turns into a money question before anyone lifts a lug nut. Tesla roadside assistance for a flat tire may be included on your VIN, billed as a dispatch, or limited to a tow. Tesla doesn’t publish a current public dollar figure we could confirm, so the Tesla app is the first stop, not a guess.
What Tesla roadside does for a flat in this metro
You request Tesla roadside assistance for a flat tire in the Tesla app or from the car’s Service menu. Tesla’s roadside team then decides what they’ll send for that VIN, in that spot, on that day. In Chicagoland that might be a mobile visit, a loaner wheel, or a tow to a destination Tesla lists. Tesla’s public pages describe a roadside program that can include tire-related help. They don’t publish a fixed Chicago playbook we could verify.
Pull over somewhere safe. Lake Shore Drive, the Kennedy, and the Dan Ryan are poor places to stand outside a car. Hazard lights on. Stay in the vehicle if traffic is close. Then open the app and start Roadside Assistance. Tell Tesla it’s a flat, not a dead pack. Those are different dispatches.
What Tesla will actually repair, plug, or refuse is a separate question. We already walked through what Tesla roadside tire repair covers on its own page. This page is the cost and coverage question. If Tesla offers a loaner wheel, ask what they charge to install it, what they charge if you keep it, and where you return it. If they offer a tow, ask who pays the tow, and which shop they’re sending you to. Get that in the app thread before you tap approve.
Charge Pro CHI doesn’t change tires and doesn’t roll a service truck. We connect drivers with licensed, independent local operators when Tesla’s path is a tow, a long wait, or the wrong kind of help. The operator quotes and bills you. We set no price.
Published tire fees versus what is not listed
The search is how much Tesla roadside assistance for a flat tire costs. Tesla doesn’t list a current Chicago dispatch fee on the public support pages we could check. Treat any blog number you see as unverified. The only figure that counts is the one Tesla shows you in the app for your VIN, or the estimate a Tesla Service Center or tire shop quotes for the rubber.
Whether Tesla roadside assistance is free for a flat tire depends on that VIN, not on a citywide rule. Sometimes the dispatch is included in the vehicle’s roadside period. Sometimes it isn’t. Tesla’s coverage window varies by car, sale date, and what the account shows. Open Tesla Account or the app and read the roadside status for that VIN. If Tesla says the incident is included, you still may pay for the tire, the patch, or a replacement wheel. If Tesla says it isn’t included, Tesla or its contractor will quote a dispatch. We couldn’t confirm a current public dollar amount for that quote.
The tire itself is a second bill. Tesla doesn’t publish a current, public Chicago price for a patch, a mobile tech visit, or a set of four new Tesla tires that we could verify. Don’t guess from a national average. Call the Tesla Service Center Tesla lists for your car, or an independent shop that stocks your size, and ask for a quote on the sidewall size. Illinois tax on parts is set by the state and the local district. Confirm tax on the invoice before you pay.
If a number never appears in the app, don’t assume it’s zero. Ask Tesla in the roadside chat whether this dispatch is included, and what you’ll pay if they replace the tire. Screenshot the answer. Tesla’s own roadside page, tesla.com/support/roadside-assistance, is the place to re-read the program language.
Why a flat and a dead pack are different calls
A flat is a wheel problem. A dead pack is an energy problem. Mixing them up is how people wait for the wrong truck.
Tesla roadside assistance for a flat tire is about getting the car rolling on four inflated tires, or towing it to a shop that can. A mobile EV charge does nothing for a tire on the rim. If the car still has range and the only fault is air, you don’t need a boost. You need Tesla, a tire shop, or a tow.
The reverse is also true. If the pack is empty, a new tire won’t move the car. That’s out-of-charge recovery, not a tire call. A typical rescue charge from a local operator is 10 to 20 miles of range in 15 to 30 minutes of Level 2 charging. That’s charging time, not an arrival promise. Charge Pro CHI doesn’t perform that charge. The matched operator does, and that operator quotes you.
Both can happen on the same night. A slow leak on the Eisenhower plus a heater running while you wait will drain range. A curb-rash flat in street parking plus a car that sat for a week can leave you with a low pack and a bad tire. If Tesla is sending a flatbed and the pack is already low, ask where the car will sit and whether it’ll still have enough energy to roll onto the bed. If the pack is empty, you may need a local boost before anyone can load it, or a wrecker that can winch a silent Tesla. That’s a different job from a tire swap.
We compared the two paths in Tesla flat tire roadside versus a charge. Use that page when you’re choosing the call. Use this page when you’re asking what Tesla’s flat-tire help costs.
Potholes, lake-effect freeze, and Tesla tire quirks here
Chicago eats tires. Freeze-thaw on Lake Shore Drive and the Kennedy opens potholes that slice sidewalls and pinch low-profile EV rubber. Lake-effect cold on the North Shore and a salted Loop street are different from a dry August in Naperville, even when the car is the same. Inland DuPage roads still crack.
Street parking makes it worse. In older neighborhoods, a lot of the housing predates 1980. Chicago’s share of housing built before 1980 is 68.6 percent, per the U.S. Census Bureau ACS 5-Year 2019-2023. Cicero is 90.2 percent. Oak Park is 78.6 percent. Tight curbs, high crowns, and overnight parking against a steel curb are how Tesla wheels pick up rash. A cosmetic scrape isn’t a roadside emergency. A bent wheel that won’t hold air is.
Don’t treat run-flat capability as a given on every Tesla. That’s a model and option question, and we already covered it in whether Teslas have run-flat tires. Confirm what’s on your car in the Tesla app or the owner’s materials for that VIN.
Cold also cuts range. The U.S. Department of Energy explains how climate and driving conditions change what an electric car can do on a charge. On a February night on Sheridan Road, a wait for Tesla roadside can take range you thought you had. That doesn’t change the tire bill. It can turn a tire-only stop into a tire-plus-charge stop. Keep the cabin moderate. Watch the pack while you wait.
Write down the size on the sidewall before it’s dark and wet. Brand, size, and load rating. A shop in Waukegan and a shop in Lincoln Park will both ask for it. Tesla Service will too.
Local backup if Tesla sends a tow, not a charger
Tesla may decide the right move is a tow. That can be the right call on a shredded tire. It’s the wrong call if what you also needed was energy, or if the destination Tesla picks doesn’t have your size. Before you approve a tow in the app, ask Tesla where the car is going, whether that shop has the tire, and who pays if they don’t.
If Tesla’s answer is a long tow across the metro, or no mobile visit, a local operator is the backup, not a replacement for Tesla’s tire policy. Charge Pro CHI is a referral service. We match you with licensed, independent local EV rescue operators. If the pack is empty at the curb in Logan Square, or you’re stuck after a Kennedy crawl with no charge left to reach a shop, Tesla roadside rescue is the path we use to connect you. The operator quotes the work. You pay that operator.
A boost only matters if the pack is also empty. Ten to twenty miles of range is often enough to reach a tire shop Tesla or you choose, once the tire holds air or Tesla has mounted a loaner wheel. If the tire won’t hold air, a charge doesn’t fix it. Don’t book a boost for a rim-down tire and expect to drive away.
If you already started a Tesla roadside request, keep it open. Tell the local operator what Tesla already promised. Two crews showing up for one wheel helps no one.
When to call us
Call when Tesla’s path is a tow you don’t want, a pack that’s also empty, or a car that can’t roll to a shop on its own. Charge Pro CHI won’t change the tire. We’ll connect you with a licensed local EV rescue operator who can quote a boost if that’s the actual need.
